Waiting On Santy Paws

Tis the last day of November, and since Thanksgiving has come and passed, it is now perfectly acceptable to start putting up your Christmas decor. Those that insist on putting it up before Thanksgiving, are just a bunch of heathens!

Today’s post was inspired by our mothers cat Toby. It takes more time for her to put the tree up than it does for him to find a comfy spot for a nap. Unlike the real life version, I forgot to leave the ornaments off till they got bored of the tree.

Work It Off

Holiday weight gain season is upon us, and while most of us do joke about all those extra pounds we expect to gain over the season, the good news is that on average, most people only gain 1 pound between Thanksgiving and New Years. The trick it seems, is to drop that one pound before it turns into more in the colder months still to come.

Since it is far easier to jump on some exercise equipment in SL and jog till the cows come home, Lagom has made it not just fun but stylish to do in your SL home as well ! Cozy Cocoa Comforts

Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1/3 cup white granulated sugar
4 cups whole milk
1 pinch salt
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

In a 2-quart saucepan, place the chocolate, sugar, milk, and salt. Over medium-low heat, stir gently with whisk until the chocolate melts and the mixture is well blended.

Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with a spoonful of marshmallow creme or whipped cream, if desired.

  • If you only have semi-sweet or sweetened chocolate available, you may not need to add any sugar. Melt the chocolate and milk mixture first, taste it, then decide if it needs a tablespoon or two of sugar.

Decking The Halls

“Deck the Halls” (originally titled “Deck the Hall“) is a traditional Christmas Carol. The melody is Welsh, dating back to the sixteenth century, and belongs to a winter carol, “Nos Galan”, while the English lyrics, written by the Scottish musician Thomas Oliphant, date to 1862.

Deck the hall with boughs of holly,
‘Tis the season to be jolly,
Fill the meadcup, drain the barrel,
Troul the ancient Yuletide carol,

See the flowing bowl before us,
Strike the harp, and join in chorus:
Follow me in merry measure,
While I sing of beauty’s treasure.

The Chi Life

This trio of tiny terrors are all the proof anyone needs that size does not matter when it comes to how vicious you are. While a deep throated growl and woof from a large breed may make you pause in your tracks, the high pitched yapping of a pack of little dogs makes me think of a loud school of piranha. Death from the ankles down !

Not So Black

So as we all know, the day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday. So lets have a brief history lesson on why Black Friday, is the commercial nightmare that it is.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many Santa or Thanksgiving parades were sponsored by department stores. These include the continuing Toronto Santa Claus Parade in Canada since 1905, originally sponsored by Eaton’s, and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade held in Manhattan, New York City since 1924, sponsored by Macy’s. Department stores would use the parades to launch a big advertising push. Eventually, it became an unwritten rule that no store would try doing Christmas advertising before the parade was over. Therefore, the day after Thanksgiving became the day when the shopping season officially started.

Days of Thanksgiving #23.

Today we are thankful for a future we are looking forward to and are ready for. We mentioned it yesterday, so today is a bit of an extension of that. When the grips of a bad depressive state are on us, the idea of a future is nearly non existent. We struggle to look forward to the next minute, the idea of the next year seems impossible. So, we are thankful that this year, we are in a place where the future we see, is a bright and happy one.

Days of Thanksgiving #22

Today we give thanks for a life that feels ‘just right’. Yes, there are always going to be things we wish could be better, that is inevitable no matter what life brings you, but life feels good right now. Our life with Troy has reached a place where we can see the future together, we are planning our first RL visit next fall. This is something that we never, ever, allowed ourselves to even dream about when we started, or even 2 years ago. Life is not perfect, but it still feels good.
