Seeing Stars

Oh my, starry eyed surprise
Sun down to sun rise
Dance all night
We gonna dance all night
Dance all night to this DJ
Now sugar, dance all night to this DJ

There is something about a song that gets stuck in your head, even when you have not actually heard the song. A memory or a random thought just thrusts the beat into your head, and suddenly you are bopping along singing it to yourself like a fool, and not caring one bit !

This happens to us frequently with Oakenfold – Starry Eyed Surprise. We are not quite sure why this particular song is such a frequent visitor on our internal playlist, but once it does, it is there for at least a good 24 hours. Perhaps it is the beat, but even tho it came out long after our rollerskating days, it gives off roller rink vibes !

Seeing the stars on this weekends Saturday Sale offerings from Second Nature Jewellery instantly threw the single on repeat in our minds. It may not be Saturday, but all three items are out now at the mainstore. So grab your skates and find your favorite DJ and see your own stars !

Look Out For Dropping Shoes

Recently, I came across a quote that a friend had shared on FB from Tumblr. It was one of those posts that you have to stop and read, not just a meme to glimpse and keep scrolling. This one not only made me pause, but truly sit and contemplate the accuracy of how a stranger, who did not know us, could still seem to know us so well. That may be one of the things I love the most about Facebook, you find out that you really are not alone, in anything.

This may seem like basic common sense, but one interesting (and kind of terrifying) thing I recently read was that some individuals who grew up in an emotionally abusive environment find that their anxiety level actually decreases in the presence of those who are mean or overly critical of them because it’s familiar. Their nervous systems are hard wired to react to that kind of treatment as “normal” in the sense that it knows what to do with it–what defense mechanisms to employ when, etc.

Meanwhile, kinder, more peaceful, and healthier relationships are quite a dramatic adjustment, and ironically feel less predictable because of all the threats that are absent and never materialize. It feels suspicious or too good to be true, which in turn ratchets up hyper-vigilance and hyper-arousal. Instead of knowing what BS is coming because it always does, there’s the nebulous sense that the other shoe is just waiting to drop. Safety and respect can feel the most unsafe for a while, because as far as the traumatized nervous system is concerned, those things don’t exist, or if they do in any form, there must be a million unseen strings attached.

This is part of what traps a lot of people in abusive relationships, consistently draws them to want to please assholes, or keeps them moving from one unhealthy environment to the next–a highly toxic comfort of familiarity where being on the receiving end of cruelty feels like “home”.

Even nearly 5 years into a healthy relationship with Troy, there are still times when our base instinct is to grab the binoculars and scan the horizon for falling shoes. We hate that we still get that feeling, because we know it is not Troy who is responsible for the action.

Cause and effect” is a relationship between events or things, where one is the result of the other or others. This is a combination of action and reaction. Only in the case of PTSD, the two are not directly related. Imagine seeing someone’s angry face and their arm raised, fist coming forward towards your face, your brains natural response is to flinch. Now imagine your partners laughing smiling face with their arm raised to brush something from your hair. Your response to the second, is not going to be the same as the first, because the situation and circumstances are not the same. The trouble with PTSD, is that our brain can not always tell the difference. We respond to the gentle brush of a hand, the same way one would respond to a punch to the face, we flinch.

Trauma responses are not always about physical stimuli. We say the rhyme as children, we all know it. “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” Oh the lies we teach our children. Sticks and stones may break bones, but words leave deeper scars. Emotional and mental abuse, are still abuse. The wounds they leave can not be treated and healed with bandages and stitches.

We are lucky, that Troy is who he is, and how he is. We still flinch, but we do it less than we used to.

If you or someone you know is experiencing mental, emotional, physical or sexual abuse, please contact your local or national hotlines for assistance. The path out, is not one you need to take alone, there are many of us who have cleared the way to help you.

Holy Cleavage

My dear, religion is like a penis. It’s a perfectly fine thing for one to have and take pride in, but when one takes it out and waves it in my face we have a problem.

Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham – Downton Abbey

Religion is one of those topics, that we tend to avoid talking about, but once we do, we ramble quite a bit. We fully support each and every single person on this planet’s right to choose their own belief system, and to practice that religion, provided that it does not involve doing harm to others. As the quote above says, you are perfectly welcome to be proud of your penis, but that does not give you the right to wag it in someone else’s face.

Personally, we are not fans of organized religion, as a whole. We consider ourselves spiritual but not religious. We believe that there is a higher power, and refer to it in general, as God, and male, because it is just easier. We believe that there was a man back in the day, named Jesus, who was that age’s version of a Mother Theresa, but not so much that he was the son of God in the way that the bible likes to tell it. We also generally believe that “God” is universal, and no matter what the religion, it all comes back to the same being, who just happens to get called different things based on cultural and geographic traditions.

We believe that God gave us all free will, and that he does not take that away when we die.

Want to hang out in heaven for a while and just chill? Sure !

Want to go back to earth and wander around? Great, ghost it is !

Want to go back to earth and live another life with different challenges to better understand something you haven’t quite figured out yet? BOOM, Reincarnation it is !

I won’t continue to ramble on about it, but if you are up for a respectful conversation about religious beliefs, you can figure out how to message in world I am sure.

With all that being said, have you seen this stunning cross necklace that I am showcasing with my Holy Cleavage ? This beauty is the Martha Cross Necklace and is a new Group Gift from Second Nature Jewellery. The earrings as well are another Group Gift Holo Earrings from the 10th Anniversary set ! This Is Us

Anyone who has known us for any length of time, knows that we used to shoot quite a lot of adult content. We were all about the public displays of sex for a number of years, and then Troy happened.

That really sounds bad when I type it that way, but it was truly the very best thing to ever happen, to any of us. We still enjoy a very healthy and happy sex life, we just no longer feel the need to share it with the rest of you. Sorry, not sorry ! That being said, now that our lives have become what they are, you may just see more of Troy than you ever saw on display before. *Rawr*

We used to use our sexuality, as a way to bolster our confidence, and sadly, our self worth as well. Survivors of childhood trauma often times end up one one extreme or the other on the sexual spectrum. There are generally speaking two choices, slut or prude, and it is difficult to find a healthy middle ground.

We are extremely grateful, and thankful, that we have found the safe haven that we have found in our relationship with Troy. We have come a long way and are looking forward to seeing what comes in the future to come.

Something New has released this cute background and 4 single poses for the PosEvent, which is running from August 27th – September 19th. When I saw the background, I had a desire to shoot something with Troy, and so I popped over to the mainstore to find acouples pose. Something New offers so many options from cute to romantic to sexy, but instead of gravitating to the smexy steamy or smushy kissy poses, my eyes went directly to this pose instead. I laughed so much as I purchased it, because it really is US. We are derps, and we own that every day, loudly and proudly. I just knew that this pose was meant to go with this background, tho I did have to make one small adjustment. Sorry Allyson, but we are so not mustard girls, so I had to use the tint feature and change that to ketchup !

Sunny Flowers

We have written before about the correlation between items or objects and people or memories. Sunflowers for us, are a Troy association, by proxy. Troy has a special link to sunflowers, and by sharing that emotional connection with us, they have become special to us, because they are special to him.

That is how love is supposed to work isn’t it ? You share yourself with another person so deeply, and you take in that other person so completely, that you share the joy of the other, even if it is not directed at or from you personally. You smile at sunflowers, because sunflowers make your partner smile.

This Sunflower Set from Second Nature Jewellery made us smile, because we thought of Troy, and he smiled seeing us wear it because of his own connection to them. And around and around it goes !

Love is beautiful, and so are sunflowers !

Amethyst

Amethyst is a member of the quartz family of minerals. It occurs naturally in volcanic rock, yet is unique in the fact that its shades of purple or violet are never uniform – So even tho it is all classified as the same mineral, each piece, is totally different and unique unto itself.

Amethyst is also considered to be quite a powerful tool in healing. It is said to have the power to alleviate stress and headaches and improve blood circulation for better health. Anyone suffering from insomnia, may find that keeping Amethyst crystals and gemstones close to their beds as they tried to sleep.

Amethyst absorbs and emits far-infrared radiation, which means that it is genuinely believed to be physically beneficial, if not controversial, when it comes to easing pain, improving circulation and inhibiting bacterial growth.

Any desires to enhance physical healing via the use of far-infrared radiation in Amethyst gemstones should only be pursued on the grounds of medical advice – we are not medical professionals and will not be responsible for anyone getting Amethyst crystals stuck in any orifices, swallowed, snorted or any other freak kinky thing you want to try.

All of that being said, I have to say that this stunning Stone In Love Amethyst Set from Second Nature Jewellery is sure to catch the eye of anyone in the vicinity. It is a bold set, meant to draw attention, in all the best ways !
