A Couple days ago we had an English language educational post, and today brings us to an American History lesson.
The establishment of the Roanoke Colony was an attempt by Sir Walter Raleigh to found the first permanent English settlement in North America. The colony was first founded in 1585, but after only five years, when a ship visited the colony in 1590, the colonists had disappeared without explanation. The colony has since been known as the Lost Colony, and the fate of the 112 to 121 colonists remains unknown to this day.
In 1607, 104 English men and boys arrived in North America to start a settlement. On May 13 they picked Jamestown, Virginia for their settlement, which was named after their King, James I. The settlement became the first permanent English settlement in North America.
The American Revolutionary War began April 19, 1775, 168 years after the first successful colonization in Jamestown.
Using the above timeline, this year marks 438 years since the first settlement on Roanoke, 416 years since the successful colonization of Jamestown, 248th year since the start of the Revolutionary War and 240 years since the war ended.

We are those kind of people that tend to get songs stuck in our head from a single word. Today’s example is this Firefly bed from Old Barn Door. As soon as we saw the name, we started singing along to Owl City. It is also a fun fact, that live performer FrankLee Anatra who also happens to be the co owner of What Next with Winter Thorn is the only performer in SL we have found that has this song on his list !
