Today we are thankful for our grandparents. While having absolutely nothing to do with our photos, it is still what we are thankful for today. We were raised by our grandparents, and they are both in their late 80’s now, and we are pushing ourselves not to struggle with their increasing medical troubles, and thoughts that there will sooner, not later, be a day when we lose one and then both of them. Until then, we are thankful for each day we get with them.

Two of the most vital tools in any healthy relationship are sacrifice and compromise. There are many other important parts as well, but today we are going to talk about these two.
Sacrifice : an act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy.
Compromise : an agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions.
During the course of a long term relationship, there will be times where both are not just needed, but required. While it is always best to try and compromise, to find a solution that both sides can agree with, not all situations have a middle ground. That is when one side must sacrifice for the sake of the greater good.
Our relationships with Troy, have all involved a bit of both over the past nearly 5 years, and will involve greater sacrifices in future for us to have the life together that we both want. Since Troy is in the UK and we are in the USA, there is no way to compromise on a middle ground, because we can not live in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, so one of us is going to have to sacrifice our current country in order to be together.
The important thing to consider with sacrifice, is that in a healthy relationship both sides make them equally. The same goes for compromises, both sides have to give as much as they take, for the scales to balance out.

We grew up living across the street from our local cemetery, and our best friend lived on the same street as we did. When we were still too young to walk to the playground, the graveyard became our playground. We played ghost in the graveyard, in the graveyard. We played tag, hide and seek, flew kites, blew bubbles and had picnics. We always ran around grave sites, never over them, because that was disrespectful. It was a healthy relationship with the dead, and so the spooky ghost stories, never really spooked us.

I Pink I Can (IPIC for short) is a Strides event for The American Cancer Society. All proceeds go to help fund breast cancer research. While the event officially begins on October 15th, today will be a soft opening for 1 week before all the live music events for those who would like to come explore and shop without all the added traffic from the live event audience. IPIC is connected directly to The American Cancer Society sim and is family friendly and fun for all ages. With over 30 vendors, including our very own Glorious Insanity, as well as the wonderfully creative Something New, more raffles than I can think of from amazing stores and places around the grid PLUS this year we are working with Ry Heslop and his partner B to bring an interactive Halloween experience!

A friend will help you move, but a real friend will help you move a body.
Real friends are hard to come by, but we are blessed that over the years we have acquired some pretty amazing ones. The kind that will not just help move a body, but who help us with far more important things like saving our sanity and keeping us real. Even if we may not talk every day, or even every week. These are those friends that you keep in your heart and when you do talk, it is like not a day has passed since the last time, even if it was over a year.
We have trouble letting people into the ‘real’ us. There are many people that get a version of us, the public persona, the Hanna Montana. The ones that get behind the curtain, are so precious to us that they often do not even realize it.
In our previous blog, we spoke about the heart attack that we had in April of 2020, and the stent that was placed then. That episode cost us 30% of our heart muscle. Since then, we have been on medication, gotten our diabetes under control, lost some weight and gotten our cholesterol in check. We have not felt anything to indicate that the damage had been getting worse, but recently we had a Nuclear Stress Test, and it indicated that the area of damage has doubled, since our Echo-cardiogram last august. On Thursday, September 15th, we are undergoing another cardiac cathetrization so that they can get an up close and personal look at the left ventricle of our heart and see if we need another stent, or a more invasive procedure to stop the spread of muscle loss.
We are going into this procedure with a positive attitude, and trying our very best to keep our panic and anxiety at a manageable level. With any luck, we will be back home on Friday and feeling back to life as we know it. If you should have some positive vibes to spare, we could use them. Hopefully no one will need to move a body.

September has arrived and while we may still be eeking out a few more daylight hours of heat, the leaves here are already beginning to change and by evening. Hot and sweaty slutty summer is giving way to snuggle fuck fall, and sweater weather.

The vibes from this song brought me right back to the me I used to be, in my much younger years. The song mentions whiskey and Busch Light, but I was usually drinking Tequila and Natural Light ( I was a broke college student in those days, don’t judge ! ) Drinking and getting bat shit crazy was my signature move for any form of stress, or well, I never really needed a reason.
Maybe one of these days I’ll pull all my shit together, sit down and do whatever People do these days ‘Til then, you know, I’m doing okay
I have reached a point in life where I may still not have my shit together, but it is a hell of alot more stable. I am doin’ more than okay, I have reached the stage of my life I like to call “Responsible Adult” – ish. It has been 24 years since we have had a drink, and you could not pay me enough to ever want to do my younger years again. We were a train wreck in our 20’s, we worked way too hard to get where we are, to ever want to go back and have to figure it all out again. Being a responsible 47 year old, is nowhere as boring as we ever though it would be.
I can still listen to the song and enjoy it without wanting to grab a drink and party with the crowd. I can appreciate the music and the waves it is giving off, without wanting to dive right back into them. There are parts of that former life that I do have some really fun memories of, ones that make us smile, and laugh till we have tears, and well, there is a reason we are still known as Crash in the small town we were living in, but I won’t go into that here LOL.

Recently, I came across a quote that a friend had shared on FB from Tumblr. It was one of those posts that you have to stop and read, not just a meme to glimpse and keep scrolling. This one not only made me pause, but truly sit and contemplate the accuracy of how a stranger, who did not know us, could still seem to know us so well. That may be one of the things I love the most about Facebook, you find out that you really are not alone, in anything.
This may seem like basic common sense, but one interesting (and kind of terrifying) thing I recently read was that some individuals who grew up in an emotionally abusive environment find that their anxiety level actually decreases in the presence of those who are mean or overly critical of them because it’s familiar. Their nervous systems are hard wired to react to that kind of treatment as “normal” in the sense that it knows what to do with it–what defense mechanisms to employ when, etc.
Meanwhile, kinder, more peaceful, and healthier relationships are quite a dramatic adjustment, and ironically feel less predictable because of all the threats that are absent and never materialize. It feels suspicious or too good to be true, which in turn ratchets up hyper-vigilance and hyper-arousal. Instead of knowing what BS is coming because it always does, there’s the nebulous sense that the other shoe is just waiting to drop. Safety and respect can feel the most unsafe for a while, because as far as the traumatized nervous system is concerned, those things don’t exist, or if they do in any form, there must be a million unseen strings attached.
This is part of what traps a lot of people in abusive relationships, consistently draws them to want to please assholes, or keeps them moving from one unhealthy environment to the next–a highly toxic comfort of familiarity where being on the receiving end of cruelty feels like “home”.

Even nearly 5 years into a healthy relationship with Troy, there are still times when our base instinct is to grab the binoculars and scan the horizon for falling shoes. We hate that we still get that feeling, because we know it is not Troy who is responsible for the action.
“Cause and effect” is a relationship between events or things, where one is the result of the other or others. This is a combination of action and reaction. Only in the case of PTSD, the two are not directly related. Imagine seeing someone’s angry face and their arm raised, fist coming forward towards your face, your brains natural response is to flinch. Now imagine your partners laughing smiling face with their arm raised to brush something from your hair. Your response to the second, is not going to be the same as the first, because the situation and circumstances are not the same. The trouble with PTSD, is that our brain can not always tell the difference. We respond to the gentle brush of a hand, the same way one would respond to a punch to the face, we flinch.
Trauma responses are not always about physical stimuli. We say the rhyme as children, we all know it. “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” Oh the lies we teach our children. Sticks and stones may break bones, but words leave deeper scars. Emotional and mental abuse, are still abuse. The wounds they leave can not be treated and healed with bandages and stitches.
We are lucky, that Troy is who he is, and how he is. We still flinch, but we do it less than we used to.
