We had so much fun setting up the new Balboa house from The Green Door and mixing different climates all together as can only be done in SL. From the tropics, to the desert and then into more temperate climates SL truly is the best of all worlds !

Kitchens are probably our favorite scenes to set up. They tend to be some of the more detailed sets that we do, while still keeping our less is more aesthetic. We want this kitchen in our RL home, we want a RL home that could accommodate this kitchen too, but that is not today’s point.

There is something about putting together a full landscape scene, that brings such a level of excitement and joy when we can step back and look at it like this, and just be in awe of the beauty. Then there comes the bittersweet feeling that comes from knowing we have to tear it all down for the next one.
There is something about this particular scene, that makes us long to live in this exact place in RL. Alas, that is not to be either !

Happy February 1st ! I would say that it meant Valentines Day was nearly upon us, but let’s be honest, we have all been looking at Valentines decor and candy in the stores since well before Christmas. Sadly, this is a phenomenon we commented on before Christmas as well. All this ‘ lead up ‘ to holidays feels like it is taking more and more away from the holiday itself. By the time the actual holiday rolls around, we are sick of looking at its paraphernalia.
The above is why we chose to accentuate the NATURI – Florence Bedroom Set with the Valentines spirit, instead of overloading you with the red and pink smushiness. Fear not tho if your desire is to set a romantic scene full of Valentines Day spirit, the set includes texture change HUD allowing you over 100 possible texture combinations to suit!

” This is the farmer sowing his corn, That kept the cock that crowed in the morn, That woke the priest all shaven and shorn, That married the man all tattered and torn, That kissed the maiden all forlorn, That milked the cow with the crumpled horn, That tossed the dog that worried the cat, That killed the rat that ate the malt, That lay in the house that Jack built. ”
– The Book of Books for Children, printed in London in 1755.

As any blogger will tell you, it is a rare day when a photo comes together exactly as you had intended from start to finish. Such is the case with today’s photo. It all started with this Whisky Firepit from GOOSE which is at Cosmopolitan. Even tho the kegs are whiskey and not mead, I was still drawn back to our former gorean and medieval roleplay days, which made me snatch up the Simply Shelby – Medieval Weapon Rack Set, and was quickly followed by The Green Door – Secret Cave.
It is rare that we have trouble setting a scene once we have a clear vision in our heads but for some reason this one took more time than the usual. The modern whiskey decor was mixing up the rest of my vision. Then Troy chimed in with the idea that perhaps it was a troop of lazy re-enactors who were only in it for the fun of dressing up like vikings and getting drunk so they were not as fussed about authenticity and just got whiskey barrels instead ! Problem solved !

We all know at least one person who seems to change their SL house more than they change their clothes, some of us know more than one. We will fully admit that for years and years and years, we were that friend for many of you. It is that love of change and new that made us decide to focus our blogging on home and decor these days.
If you are on the lookout for your next new home, we highly recommend checking out The Green Door. Their home control system is fantastic, allowing you to change wall and often floor colors plus control windows and doors all from the convenient wall panel. You can find the Layton House over at the mainstore now !

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow, Gave a lustre of midday to objects below, When what to my wondering eyes did appear, But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny rein-deer, With a little old driver so lively and quick, I knew in a moment he must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: “Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!” As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky; So up to the housetop the coursers they flew With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too— And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose; He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight— “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Wood burning firplaces are a tricky thing for us. Living in the county part of New York, the part where our trees are taller than our buildings, means that as soon as the air takes a small dip, the wood stoves and fireplaces are in full swing.
We grew up with a wood stove, so the smell brings back happy memories of that scent filling the air reminds us of live in a safe place. It is a comforting smell, until it isn’t. Without any warning, that same happy memory smell can become triggery, like someone flipping a switch with no warning, and that same smell brings panic and anxiety along with a flood of house fire memories.
It was not our home that was lost in that fire, but was a fire that took 3 cousins and an Uncle with it. We had a dream about that fire the night that it happened, and it was the phone ringing that woke us. That phone call was to tell us about the fire. We thought we were still stuck in that nightmare, and when we realized we were infact awake, we fainted.
We spent several weeks helping to walk through the rubble that was left behind, to try and salvage anything that might have been able to be saved. There was not much, but the few things that were found are still treasured by our Aunt and 2 cousins that survived. The smell of burnt wood was so strong, it clung to our clothes so badly just walking through the debris, that we had to wash them twice just to get the smell out.
Now, we inhale that smell deeply and hold on to the happy for as long as we can, because we know that the next breath could bring the dark with it.
Hold on to the happy for as long as you can, and have a merry Wintertide !
