When we were about 12 or so, and our younger cousin about 3-ish, she used to pronounce Yellow as Lellow. We spent an entire weekend laser focused on teaching her how to pronounce it correctly, and it worked! We were so pleased with ourselves that we were able to teach her something, and could not wait to show off her new correct pronunciations to her mother when she picked her up. Our Aunt was utterly annoyed, because of course she thought Lellow was cute, and let’s face it, it really is !

Heart Seeds

We all use the phrase ‘the heart wants what it wants’ when talking about someone being in love with someone we feel it shouldn’t , but we never say ‘the liver wants what it wants’ when talking about alcoholism and cirrhosis.

As early as the 7th century BC, there was poetry that linked the heart with love. One of the earliest examples is “Love shook my heart, Like the wind on the mountain Troubling the oak-trees.” which was written by Greek poet Sappho, who lived on the island of Lesbos surrounded by female disciples whom she wrote passionate love poems to, tho only fragments of them still remain known.

Later Plato and Aristotle expanded on the dominant role of the chest in love, and granting the heart in supremacy in everything in the human body and psyche.

Dating back to 510-490 BC, the oldest-known image of what we now refer to as a heart shape was found on this coin, which was found in the ancient Roman city of Cyrene — near what is now Shahhat, Libya. The shape that we now call a heart, started out as the shape of a silphium seed.The plant is now extinct, but in its day the ancient Libyans became rich by exporting it for its contraceptive properties. Since it was such a major part of their economy, it makes sense they would stamp their coins with its imagery.

Today’s post truly made us realize just how much happier we are focusing only on home & decor posts, and not trying to juggle fashion posts as well. Setting up a scene feels so comfortable and natural, where our fashion posts always had an undercurrent of frustration and felt forced. We are not those kinds of girls who enjoy changing clothes and playing dress up, we are the girls that are perfectly happy wearing the same favorite jeans and tee while we stand or snuggle with Troy on our platforms for a week at a time. We do change clothes if we are going to be social and see the same people that already saw us in the outfit we have on, we do have some standards !

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, things are getting colder, so it is a good time to remember that if you are cold, your animals are cold too. We are quite aware that not all animals are indoor pets, but that does not mean they should be left to fend for themselves without adequate shelter.

Tis the last day of November, and since Thanksgiving has come and passed, it is now perfectly acceptable to start putting up your Christmas decor. Those that insist on putting it up before Thanksgiving, are just a bunch of heathens!

Today’s post was inspired by our mothers cat Toby. It takes more time for her to put the tree up than it does for him to find a comfy spot for a nap. Unlike the real life version, I forgot to leave the ornaments off till they got bored of the tree.

Days of Thanksgiving #19.

Today we are thankful for being fortunate enough to not worry about affording to cook a holiday meal. There was a time, when we were a young single mother, when that was a very real worry, and not just at holidays. Thankfully, we were able to get through that time, and come out the other side better, and wiser for it.

With just a few days left until Thanksgiving here in the US, we would like to encourage you to make a donation to your local food bank or community pantry, to give a little help to those who would really like to be able to give their kids happy holiday traditions too.
