Heirloom Furniture

Family heirlooms, those things passed down through the generations which are sometimes cherished, and other times end up at the antique or thrift shops. We have several pieces that qualify, including two secretary desks, one of which still has a visible ink bottle ring on its writing surface. We remember being very young and our great grandfather allowing us to play at his desk and being thrilled at all the treasures we would find hidden inside the little cubbies.

Our grandparents have a gorgeous heirloom bedroom set that is huge and insanely heavy. It is a set that we always imagined having ourselves when we were older, but now that we are older and our grandparents are nearing their 90’s we are fairly certain that we have no room in our home for it to fit, so perhaps it would be better suited for one of our cousins who own their own homes and have room for it.

Plundered Booty

One of our favorite things about the HISA – Kahakai house is that it has a built in koi pond on the roof ! This is a completely outstanding use of space, and it offers not only a spacious entertaining space, but an excellent use of that space. It is spectacular for those that prefer their playroom dungeon to be a bit more airy too, and Dictatorshop provides the perfect toys for any pirate wishing to plunder some or someone’s booty !

As with most Dictatorshop items, they come in an assortment of configurations to suit the needs and tastes of the pluderer, as well as the always present texture change menu that make mixing and matching with other decor far easier than walking the plank !

Classic Romance

We have been binging Bridgerton of late and so we have been inundated with the theme of classic romance and frufru things, as well as some pretty hot sex, at least in season one. Season 2 has been lacking in the sex but the sexual tension is there in overdrive, and lets face it, that tension can at times be even better than the actual sex. Fans ourselves !

Heart Seeds

We all use the phrase ‘the heart wants what it wants’ when talking about someone being in love with someone we feel it shouldn’t , but we never say ‘the liver wants what it wants’ when talking about alcoholism and cirrhosis.

As early as the 7th century BC, there was poetry that linked the heart with love. One of the earliest examples is “Love shook my heart, Like the wind on the mountain Troubling the oak-trees.” which was written by Greek poet Sappho, who lived on the island of Lesbos surrounded by female disciples whom she wrote passionate love poems to, tho only fragments of them still remain known.

Later Plato and Aristotle expanded on the dominant role of the chest in love, and granting the heart in supremacy in everything in the human body and psyche.

Dating back to 510-490 BC, the oldest-known image of what we now refer to as a heart shape was found on this coin, which was found in the ancient Roman city of Cyrene — near what is now Shahhat, Libya. The shape that we now call a heart, started out as the shape of a silphium seed.The plant is now extinct, but in its day the ancient Libyans became rich by exporting it for its contraceptive properties. Since it was such a major part of their economy, it makes sense they would stamp their coins with its imagery.

We all have memories of “that room”, growing up ours was our best friend’s grandmothers sitting room. It was for adults only, and we certainly were not to even think of taking food nor beverage anywhere near it. the carpet was white, and the furniture was posh and super uncomfortable. We used to joke that sitting in there felt like sitting in the funeral home. It was the place to be seen and not heard. Every other room felt like a second home to us, but even well into our adulthood, it felt ever so odd to be invited into that room to visit.

Happy New Year ! Welcome 2023, let’s hope that you behave better than 2022 did. As anyone with children know, trying to plan party food for an event requires a buffet type mix. Luckily in Second Life it is easy enough to do with the wide variety of offerings, I chose not to make a total mess of my new DICTATORSHOP kitchen and ordered take away Pizza and Chinese from Junk Food, I even got some yummy chocolates to finish it off.
