We all know at least one person who seems to change their SL house more than they change their clothes, some of us know more than one. We will fully admit that for years and years and years, we were that friend for many of you. It is that love of change and new that made us decide to focus our blogging on home and decor these days.

Snow Day Plans

Since earlier this week, our local weather forcasts have talked of nothing but the large storm that was expected to hit us from Thursday evening into Saturday morning. Our local snow accumulations were expected to be between 2 – 5 inches, so every school age child in the area went to bed last night expecting at minimum a 2 hour delay start for school today. Well, as the weather will do, it decided to ride the freezing line fence all night and lean heavily on the higher side, so all we got was rain, so school was on its normal ass crack early start time.

Santa Buddies Training Camp

If you have children, it is almost guaranteed that you have seen Snow Buddies or Santa Buddies at least 15 times during any given Christmas season. I know that we spent many a movie night with the buddies year round, but always at Christmas.

I could not resist making a Santa Buddy training camp when I saw the oh so adorable Christmas costume options Jian has made for their Lab Puppy collection. There is also a Holiday bandana option as well for these little cuties !

Holding Out

Tis the season for Christmas Decor, but as in real life, not everyone jumps on the holiday decorating train. We are one of those houses. While the outside has lights and two 4 foot inflatables, that is simply because our adult son takes care of outside decor. Inside, well, we have a Gnome for the Holidays wood sign hanging in the kitchen and there is not likely to be much more except for the 2 foot sound activated dancing tree, also our son’s doing. We just are not holiday people when it comes to decorating our RL home.

Keep Them Warm

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, things are getting colder, so it is a good time to remember that if you are cold, your animals are cold too. We are quite aware that not all animals are indoor pets, but that does not mean they should be left to fend for themselves without adequate shelter.

These Cocker Spaniels ( the sleepers ) and King Charles Spaniels ( the playful ones ) from Jian are absolutely thrilled to be inside the Hoffman Cottage from The Green Door.

Snowy Getaway

If I close my eyes and think about a cozy stone cottage nestled in the woods, the Hoffman Cottage from The Green Door is what I see. Featuring an open plan with living space and kitchen dining area, a separate bedroom and a two-way fireplace shared by the living and bedroom.

Not So Black

So as we all know, the day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday. So lets have a brief history lesson on why Black Friday, is the commercial nightmare that it is.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many Santa or Thanksgiving parades were sponsored by department stores. These include the continuing Toronto Santa Claus Parade in Canada since 1905, originally sponsored by Eaton’s, and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade held in Manhattan, New York City since 1924, sponsored by Macy’s. Department stores would use the parades to launch a big advertising push. Eventually, it became an unwritten rule that no store would try doing Christmas advertising before the parade was over. Therefore, the day after Thanksgiving became the day when the shopping season officially started.

Days of Thanksgiving #17.

Today we are thankful for ‘extra’ family members, the ones that generally come with a prefix on their title. Step parents, half siblings, foster kids, all of the family members who were not bound together by blood, but by choice. We ourselves are blessed by a large number of extra family members, who our lives would not be what they are now without.

Recently, Troy’s SL son Harrison has returned to SL more regularly, and we decided that living on an empty platform did not invoke the feeling of family bonding that we are hoping to build. This new change means we need a house, and what better place to start auditioning than with The Green Door.

The first house on the audition block, is the Bently House. With 2 stories, 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a 30×25 meter footprint and just 133 LI.

Days of Thanksgiving #14.

Today we are thankful for being raised to enjoy and appreciate books. Reading was never something that was forced upon us, except in school of course when you were required to read what the rest of the class was. We were read to every night, from as early on as we can remember, and we continued to be read to, long after we were able to read ourselves. It was part of the bedtime routine, and fostered in us, a love to read on our own.

One of our favorites was and still remains J.R.R Tolkien. The worlds those stories opened up to us, lead us to wanting to find and explore more of them. Fantasy fiction with a medieval feel, magic, dragons, elves, dwarves. So many adventures to be had, and ones we still love to this day, with the world of Elan from Michael J Sullivan, for whom our name Arysta was taken. If you have not read this outstanding series, we highly recommend it. While we do not find the time to sit and read like we used to, we do fully utilize our Audible and Libby apps for audio books, and listen rather than watch the television during the day. Movies and shows are for after Troy is done with work and we are snuggled together.

Days of Thanksgiving #13

Today we are thankful for friendship. We already covered the friends that become family part, but not all friendships do that, and it does not make one more or less than the other, it just makes them different. We need all sorts of good people in our lives, and friends do that. Having friends and being a friend are rough, and friendships are just like any other relationship, it takes both sides to make it work.
